What is Project 1 and Project 2?

Construction for SR 179 has been divided into two constructions projects. Project 1 is the Village of Oak Creek and Forest Service and Project 2 is from Back o' Beyond to the “Y” intersection in the City of Sedona.

How is access to businesses going to be maintained during construction?

Access to all businesses will remain open during construction.

When will construction start on Project 2?

We are anticipating construction beginning in February of 2008.

When will we be done?

Project 1 will take about 18 months and should be complete in the Spring of 2008. We anticipate that construction will be completed on SR 179 in 2010.

How much will traffic flow be affected?

ADOT utilizes a number of construction methods and works closely with the community, adjacent property owners, residents, and businesses to minimize traffic and access issues that may be associated with construction.

Construction sequencing is how the construction will be done so there is as little disruption as possible to traffic and businesses. For example, construction might start on the West side of the road, and keep traffic moving on the East side. Then when that is done, construction is done on the East side so traffic can keep moving on the West side. This will be a bit easier to do because of the addition of shoulders. Shoulders can actually be used as a lane as construction proceeds.

How will ambulances, school buses, tour buses, etc., get through during construction?

We are meeting with the school district, public safety and emergency services on a monthly basis and providing weekly construction updates. We have a variety of communication methods to get out the most up-to-date information to them, as well as city and county officials, the tourism industry, etc.

How will the intersections work during construction?

Intersections will operate the same during construction. Temporary traffic lights will continue to operate as the roundabouts are being built.
