Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.

What to Watch for the Week of December 7, 2009

First Priority: SAFETY

Saturday Daytime Work
In order to expedite activities on the project, the contractor will be working Saturdays during the day through the end of the year. Sunday work may be necessary.

Schnebly Hill/Oak Creek Bridge Area
Traffic was shifted near the intersection in order to begin removal of the old bridge and provide a work zone to install storm drains and complete construction of the new bridge.

Traffic is anticipated to be transitioned onto the south portion of the new bridge the week of December 14.

The old bridge is anticipated to be removed the week of December 21.

Activities between Morgan Wash and Canyon Drive
The uphill and downhill retaining walls are taking shape and moving forward as scheduled. A portion of the uphill wall (shown in photo) south of Canyon Drive includes nails drilled into the soil for stability. The final wall will be placed in front of the soil-nailed wall and be tied into the wall currently being poured south of this section.

Bowstring to Morgan Wash
Traffic was recently shifted to the east side of the road to allow construction of a storm drain, catch basins, and curb and gutter along the west side of the roadway.

ADOT and Southwest Asphalt Paving appreciate your continued cooperation as these improvements are made to SR 179.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment and personnel availability. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

For a complete listing of freeway and highway restrictions across Arizona visit ADOT's Travel Information Site at www.az511.com or call 5-1-1.
