Arizona Department of Transportation SR 179 Improvement Project Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities. What to Watch for Week of February 16 The snow and wet weather has created potholes and puddles on the road in the areas of construction. Construction crews are cleaning and repairing the areas as much as possible. More wet weather is due this weekend, as well. Please drive slowly through the construction area. Crews are working diligently to finish work in the business district. The eight-hour work day is now beginning at 7 a.m., seven days a week. Curb and gutter work has been completed at the Y and crews are now finishing the sidewalk. This area could have one lane closed occasionally which may slow traffic. Crews are also finishing the business driveways. All business access remains open. Some utility work may be done at night. City of Sedona crews will be working at night to complete a new sewer manhole at Hillside by Tuesday February 17. On Monday, February 16, APS will begin working for two weeks on wiring around the bridges, which will include removing the poles. Traffic impacts and noise will be minimal. These three photos depict the Morgan Wash area, just south of Morgan Road. The first photo is how the area looked before construction started. The second photo was taken this week and shows the retaining wall being built on the left side. The third is a photo simulation of what the area will look like when the work is complete. Note that the road will be raised and above the retaining wall.
There may be some traffic slowing as crews continue work on the retaining wall in front of Hillside. Curb and gutter is being installed between Back O’ Beyond and Chapel, and around Mallard. Drive safely and be aware of traffic switches. Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
