Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.

What to Watch for Week of March 16

No Weekend Work

There is no scheduled weekend work. Crews will resume work Monday morning.

Oak Creek

ADOT has participated in numerous site inspections of the projects site with environmental regulatory staff from ADEQ and the Corps of Engineers during the last 15 months of construction.  ADOT and its contractor are committed to following all permit requirements from all regulatory agencies for the SR179 project.  ADOT and its contractor continue to monitor spring weather conditions closely while work continues in and around Oak Creek throughout the project area.

Hillside

Work continues on the hillside wall and the curb and gutter just north of the center.  Please use caution when driving through this area.  All shops at the center are open (as with all on the corridor) and access to both driveways is available.

Roadway Striping and Traffic Switch Near Back O’ Beyond

Today (Friday 13), crews refreshed the “Y” roundabouts and placed new striping in the area between Back O’ Beyond and Mallard Road.  Traffic is now switched onto the permanent paving on the west side of SR179.  Crews will begin building the east half of the new road in this area next week.  The Chapel Roundabout will begin to take shape and should be operational in April.

Preparation for Paving

Concrete crews are finishing the curb and gutter north of Mallard Road.  Pending weather, crews will pave the area later in the week. Please use extra caution driving through this area.

Traffic Switch Near Chapel Road

Traffic has been switched onto temporary pavement on the west side of SR179 between Chapel Road and Cathedral Rock Trail.  Crews will now be able to remove the previously placed temporary pavement on the east side and build up the grade to meet the higher west side and place the meandering sidewalk in the area.

Landscaping

Landscaping crews for Project 2 will begin work in the next few weeks where the construction is (or is nearly) complete.  Unlike Project 1, the landscaping work is under roadway contract and work can be concurrent, minimizing the time needed for final completion.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
