What to Watch for Week of March 30
Preventing Erosion
Waddles, long tubes stuffed with hay, have been placed strategically along the sides of the road throughout Projects 1 and 2. Installed to aid in the prevention of erosion on sloped areas, the tubes will help control surface runoff until vegetation begins to grow. Plant seeding has already been done throughout Project 1, and will assist further with the natural prevention of erosion.
Hillside Takes Shape
Exposed metal re-bar is visible in front of Hillside as crews work on two retaining walls. On Monday, another 60 ft of concrete will be poured for wall construction. Progress is moving quickly and should be complete within the next couple of weeks. Utility work is also being done in this area.
Oak Creek Bridge
Starting Tuesday, March 31 crews will be backfilling (re-filling with excavated material) the large retaining wall south of Oak Creek Bridge. A high volume of dump trucks carrying dirt will be in-and-out of this area; minor traffic delays may occur.
Crews continue to work on supporting columns and piers for Oak Creek Bridge.
Back O’ Beyond to Mallard Drive
A large span of Project 2 from Back O’ Beyond to Mallard Drive has crews preparing to bring both north and south lanes of SR 179 to the same level. This is known as setting the grade. Surveyors are setting stakes throughout the area for the planned meandering sidewalks. This is all in preparation for paving in mid-April.
Concrete crews are working on placing curb and gutter on the east side of SR 179 between Back O’ Beyond and Mallard Drive.
Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
