Public Meeting July 2 to Discuss Y Construction
(No Construction Chat July 3)

The City of Sedona and ADOT will host a public meeting on Wednesday, July 2 at the Sedona Public Library from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to detail the traffic plans during construction at the “Y”, which will start after the 4th of July weekend.

Consequently, Construction Chat will not be held the next morning, July 3. The next Construction Chat will be on August 7.

ADOT and the City of Sedona will outline the phasing plan for construction of the roundabout at the Y, which will be one of the more complex elements of this construction project. The sequencing plan is being designed to take as little time as possible at the Y. This construction will entail traffic impacts and will require community cooperation and patience. This must be done so traffic can continue to move in all directions and ultimately, provide less inconvenience.

The contractor will work 20 hour days, 7 days a week, to complete the Y intersection and cutting the scheduled timeline in half. Otherwise, this construction would take four months and would go into the busy tourist time for Sedona.

No Work Over Holiday Weekend

Work this week will end at noon on Thursday, July 3 for the Independence Day weekend.  Our staff and crews wish you a safe, fun, and relaxing weekend.

Brewer Roundabout Nearing Completion (photo)

The "top half" of the Brewer roundabout (on the Post Office side) will be paved this week and traffic will begin flowing on either side of the middle island.

Creative Solution to Protect Trees Near Tlaquepaque

The construction team, in beginning to build a retaining wall in the Tlaquepaque area, noticed that the design called for the wall footing to be placed in an area that might impact some treet roots.  The team, including the staff arborist, met on site and derived a creative solution to "span" the roots and protect the tree.  This is part of ADOT's ongong commitment to preserve and replace as much vegetation as possible during the construction project.

Environmental Protection Devices Installed at Morgan Wash

Currently installation is occurring in the Morgan Wash area of an "oil-water separator" system that will filter the storm water that travels through the storm drain system prior to it flowing into Morgan Wash and eventually into Oak Creek.  A similar system will be installed at the Oak Creek Bridge.  This is part of ADOT's ongoing commitment to environmental protection for the area of Oak Creek and indeed the entire project.

Paving in Forest

Progress continues toward completion of the northbound alignment through Coconino National Forest.  Paving is more than halfway complete.  When the northbound alignment is completed, the northbound and southbound travel lanes will be separated, and one direction will flow on its own separate alignment.  Other features through the forest will be passing lanes, bike lanes, dedicated turn lanes, and four new scenic pullouts.

ADOT on Yavapai Broadcasting

The SR 179 Improvement Project will be featured Tuesday, July 1 on Yavapai Broadcasting. The show airs live on AM 1600 KYBC after the 8-am news and then will re-air at 2 p.m. on 105.7 KVRD. The construction team also conducts weekly update calls with Yavapai Broadcasting each Monday morning.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
