Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.
Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

SR 179 Communications
The Arizona Department of Transportation is mailing this week the tenth in our newsletter series since planning for this improvement project began in August of 2003. Watch your mailboxes for the newsletter, which contains information on Construction Progress and Schedule, and describes what to expect this summer and fall. ADOT has mailed all ten newsletters to all postal addresses in the Sedona area to keep the community informed about the project throughout planning, design, and construction.

ADOT hosts Construction Chat the first Thursday of each month from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. at the project office located at 70 Bell Rock Plaza Suite C. The next construction chat will be held Thursday, August 2.
What to watch for the week of July 23:

Paving is scheduled this week in the area of Indian Cliffs Road.
Cortez on the east side of SR 179 has been closed to complete the storm drain work. It is anticipated to be closed for approximately one week .
Ongoing Work on SR 179
Storm drain work throughout Project 1 is ongoing. Temporary concrete barrier is installed throughout the Village to help traffic flow, and blue business access signs are installed to guide traffic through the construction zone. There may be minor traffic impacts such as shoulder closures or construction vehicles needing access to the road, or lane closures with flaggers/DPS present.
Work for new bridge construction in the forest segment is ongoing near milepost 309.5, and there may be short duration flagging operations.
The HT Trail closure will be extended to to this fall. Information will be provided as it becomes available.
Project 2 Utility Work
Evening Lane Closures
Arizona Water Company's Contractor (Tiffany Construction) will continue installing a new 16-inch water main Mondays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Schnebly Hill Road and Highland Road, requiring a lane shift. Traffic will be maintained in both directions and directed by flag crews at all times.
APS Trenching
Southwest Cable will continue working at night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning at Schnebly Hill Road and in front of Tlaquepaque to install new underground conduit for APS across Schnebly Hill Road to the proposed new pedestrian/utility bridge. This work will involve a lane closure utilizing flag crews to maintain traffic in all directions.
Juniper to Morgan
UniSource's contractor has completed trenching and installing the new 6" gas line between Morgan Road and Painted Canyon. Unisource will continue to test the new line the week of July 23th.
Morgan to Painted Canyon
Trenching has been completed between Morgan Rd and Painted Canyon for the installation of underground conduit for Qwest. Qwest crews will be working on splicing conduit for the next several weeks.
