Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.

What to Watch for Week of July 27, 2009

Landscaping in Business District Continues
The irrigation lines are being installed in preparation for seasonal planting. Actual plant and crushed rock placement will occur in the upcoming months.

Wall Work Continues at Poco Diablo
Construction of retaining walls adjacent to Poco Diablo continues. Access to Poco Diablo at Doodlebug and Oak Creek Cliffs remains open.

Project Success: Back O’Beyond to Arrow/Morgan
Back O’Beyond to Arrow/Morgan is 70% complete with only short sections from Chapel to Cathedral Rock and the Poco Diablo area remaining. Most of this section has had seed spread on the ground disturbance areas including the medians. The sidewalks, curbs, and Chapel and Arrow/Morgan roundabouts are complete with permanent signs placed.

Oak Creek Bridge Update
Crews are examining how to remove an underground section of the old bridge abutment near Tlaquepaque in the most cost effective and environmentally sensitive way. There will be no visible work on the new bridge above ground while this work is being done. The bridge is still on schedule to be completed by the end of 2009 or early 2010.

Pedestrian Bridge Open at Oak Creek
The pedestrian bridge is complete. A temporary access to the pedestrian bridge remains open to the public. Please note that this access may be restricted due to final sidewalk, wall and roadway bridge construction at various times through the remainder of the year.

ADOT and Southwest Asphalt Paving appreciate your continued cooperation as these improvements are made to SR 179.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment and personnel availability. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

For a complete listing of freeway and highway restrictions across Arizona visit ADOT's Travel Information Site at www.az511.com or call 5-1-1.
