Weed Removal in Coconino National Forest

Equipment and crews are conducting weed removal along the side of the road through the Coconino National Forest.  Thank you for driving safely through this area, which is still considered a construction zone although the majority of work is complete.

Sidewalk and Curb/Gutter Installation throughout Project 2 Business District

Concrete crews are deployed in a number of areas between the Y and Canyon to install curb and gutter and sidewalks.  This is the next step after underground utilities are in place.  Median installation will commence later this month.

Preparation for Pedestrian Bridge Installation

The pedestrian bridge is expected to be delivered this fall.  In preparation, the team is coordinating with the numerous utilities that will be installed and connected at that time.  The utilities will utilize the pedestrian bridge to cross Oak Creek rather than the roadway bridge.

ADOT does not allow utilities to be installed on roadway bridges for safety reasons. The community and designers came up with the idea of the pedestrian bridge, which also serves as a beautiful and safe place for people to cross on foot and view the creek.

Walls and Utilities South of Oak Creek Bridge

There will be activity over the next several weeks in the area just south of Oak Creek Bridge, where difficult wall installation is under way to protect the narrow corridor.  This is an extremely tight work zone, and although traffic will continue to flow in each direction, it will be tight.  We appreciate your cooperation in protecting the safety of the workers.

Bridge Foundation Structures

Crews will work throughout the week and weekend drilling and pouring the foundation structures for the new Oak Creek Bridge, which is expected to be completed next year.

Bowstring Drive Temporarily Closed for Utility Installation

Intensive work on utility installation and relocation is underway in the area of Bowstring Drive.  The team coordinated closely so that all of this work can be conducted at the same time, reducing the total time of impact on residents in the area.  Bowstring Drive is closed and traffic is detoured with signs.

New Road Takes Shape Chapel to Mallard

Over the next few weeks, the west side of the road between Chapel and Mallard will be taking shape as crews “build the grade,” including the installation of base layers prior to paving.  Traffic is shifted to temporary pavement toward the east side of the road.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
