Special Update for Week of July 7: Construction Begins at Y Intersection

Crews worked diligently last week to prepare the Brewer Roundabout, which will assist traffic movement during the Y reconstruction.

This week, one of the most complex parts of the SR 179 Improvement Project will be underway: the reconstruction of the Y Intersection.  Below is a photo  simulation of what the completed intersection will look like. 

ADOT's construction team has developed a plan for this difficult task to be completed in as little time as possible.  Crews will work around the clock, seven days a week to completely rebuild the intersection before the busy fall tourism season.

Construction at the "Y" will be divided into two phases, building the new roundabout intersection one half at a time.  During Phase 1 (July), crews will build the half of the roundabout closest to the Hyatt and phase 2 (August), will be the other half of the roundabout.

Business access is open during construction.  Please take the time to plan ahead for your travels through the construction zone, and be sure to visit your local businesses during this time.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
